V Harish, 27, was found hanging at his rented villa in Chennai. The creator behind the 'Finance With Harish' brand, which amassed over 1.3 million followers on Instagram and YouTube, has died. His father alleges the death was driven by targeted cyberbullying from Jason Samuel, the CEO of venture studio Zemuria Inc. The family has demanded a police investigation into the incident.
Samuels posted on X on Tuesday evening, expressing shock and grief. He denied the bullying allegations, stating he merely highlighted that Harish was not a SEBI Registered Investment Adviser (RIA). Samuel claimed Harish misrepresented his credentials, specifically noting that Harish had only recently obtained his AMFI Registration Number (ARN) from the Association of Mutual Funds in India. "I pointed out his lack of license and authority, misrepresentation of license and fraud on SEBI and AMFI," Samuel wrote. He added that he had asked Harish in a video to return to the space with a proper SEBI license.
The dispute reportedly escalated after Meta disabled Harish's primary Instagram handle following Samuel's allegations. Harish had shifted to a new handle to continue releasing content, a transition his father says caused significant stress. The family argues this platform instability, coupled with the public accusations, contributed to the fatal outcome.
Police in Chennai are aware of the death but have not yet registered a formal case. The investigation will likely examine the timeline of Samuel's public posts and the platform actions taken by Meta in the weeks leading up to Harish's death. Legal experts note that while exposing unregulated financial advice is protected speech, the manner in which such criticisms are delivered can cross into harassment, a distinction courts will now scrutinize.
