Rahul Gandhi, the opposition’s face in the Lok Sabha, posted on X today, demanding that the centre face legal reckoning for the SIR electoral‑roll revision. He singled out Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, claiming they will be held accountable for the alleged vote‑chori. The SIR controversy erupted after the Election Commission unveiled a revised voter list, sparking accusations that the government was manipulating the rolls to tilt the electoral calculus in favour of the INDIA alliance.
Gandhi thanked every INDIA‑allied MP for standing firm in defence of democracy, noting their presence in Parliament, on the streets, and near Jantar Mantar. He framed the opposition’s stance as a collective pledge to safeguard electoral integrity.
The MP warned that the government could block marches or refuse meetings, but that it could not silence the will of the people. He positioned his threat as a rallying cry for the electorate.
The centre’s response has been muted, but opposition circles are calling for an immediate parliamentary session to address the SIR allegations. The issue now sits on the agenda of the next Lok Sabha debate, where Rahul Gandhi plans to press for judicial scrutiny.
