Tyler Perry has donated $750,000 to clear overdue property taxes for more than 300 low‑income seniors in Atlanta, the Invest Atlanta Partnership said on Thursday.
And the funds will also support a pilot program that will cover tax increases for 100 seniors, giving them a safety net for future hikes, the partnership added.
Perry, who once spent three months living in his car after a $12,000 theatre flop, built a $1.4 billion fortune through film, television, and a 330‑acre studio in the city, Forbes reported.
Mayor Keisha M. Dickens praised the generosity, saying, "Tyler Perry’s donation will keep Atlantans in the communities they built," and seniors say the relief gives them peace of mind.
The partnership will disburse the money over the coming month, and city officials will track how many families stay put, the investment arm said.
