The crash unfolded on Thursday afternoon on National Highway 205, just 20 km north of Shimla, when a car driven by Dayanand from Arki, Solan district slammed into a Haryana Roadways (HRTC) bus heading from Bagipul to Shimla. The impact tore the car apart, killing Dayanand, his wife Hemlata and mother Vidyadevi instantly, while their son Manish was dragged from the wreckage with severe injuries. No passengers aboard the HRTC bus were hurt, and the driver reported the collision to the police within minutes.
Shimla's Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh confirmed the incident and said a case under sections 281, 125(a) and 106 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed. Investigators are probing whether the driver’s alleged rash driving caused the head‑on impact, and whether the bus’s route or speed contributed.
Manish was rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla, where he is receiving intensive care; a second family member was later declared deceased at the hospital. The family, hailing from Arki in Solan, had been en route for a weekend visit when the tragedy struck. Residents of the nearby village of Ghandal said the road conditions are often slick after the monsoon season, a factor that may have played a role.
Police have opened a thorough investigation, and the case will be heard in the local court once the evidence is compiled. Authorities urge motorists on NH 205 to exercise caution, especially during wet weather.
