Police say Brahmanand Yadav was traveling to Gidhini market on Tuesday when the men intercepted him near Rakesh Yadav’s house. Red chilli powder was hurled into his eyes, after which the assailants beat him with bamboo sticks and an axe, the officers added.
The victim, a 35‑year‑old wrestler known locally for his prowess, was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The recovered weapons—a set of four bamboo sticks and an iron pickaxe—were seized at the scene.
Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Meena said the killings stem from an old feud and were intended to eliminate Brahmanand and undermine his brother Ramakant Yadav’s bid for village pradhan.
The police have filed a charge sheet and the case is slated to be heard in the Khalilabad district court next week, according to Meena.
Brahmanand’s wife, Sushila Yadav, said the tragedy has left the family shattered, while local villagers fear a new wave of violence ahead of the elections.
