The High Museum of Art in Atlanta marked its centenary on October 1, 2026, unveiling a Jacob Lawrence oil painting and hosting a community block party on Peachtree Street that drew more than 3,000 attendees.
The museum, which spans 300,000 square feet and houses over 20,000 works, has seen membership climb from fewer than 25,000 a decade ago to just shy of 50,000 today, while visitors of colour now account for 55% of attendance.
High will reinstall its American and African Art galleries with thematic displays, adding a rare Jacob Lawrence canvas, a quilt by Carolyn L. Mazloomi, and works by Ben Enwonwu, Ladi Kwali, Nike Okundaye, Bruce Onobrakpeya and Jimoh Akolo, plus more than 200 new pieces in photography, contemporary art and design.
The centennial also launches collaborations with MARTA, the Atlanta Beltline, the Hawks, UPS and Delta Air Lines to bring art into transit hubs, parks and office spaces, as the museum projects a 50,000‑member base by year‑end and plans to extend free admission through the month.
