The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum will convene in Samvidhan Sadan, New Delhi, from 26 to 27 October, bringing together leaders from Brazil, Russia, China, India, South Africa, and partner states. Speaker Om Birla, who will preside over the sessions, has outlined a program that includes plenary debates, bilateral exchanges and a focus on institutional resilience and digital governance.
In a statement delivered at the pre‑forum briefing, Birla emphasized the need for a joint declaration, mirroring the one issued during the BRICS summit in Brazil. He said, "India’s Parliament also holds discussions and engages in dialogue with all countries to build consensus. I hope that, with the agreement of all countries, there will be a joint declaration at the BRICS Parliamentary Forum as well."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event and meet the visiting delegations, according to Lok Sabha Secretariat details. The forum’s theme, "Fostering Parliaments for People‑Centric Development," will steer discussions on climate change, terrorism, and sustainable governance.
A joint statement is slated for finalisation on 25 October, with the Lok Sabha Secretariat coordinating the drafting of the declaration. The next step will be the adoption of the declaration at the opening plenary, potentially setting a precedent for parliamentary collaboration across BRICS.
