BJP worker Chandan Bhalla, 46, was shot dead in Trishulapatty, Birbhum on Sunday evening, police said. The fatal incident followed a mysterious phone call that led him out of his home.
SP Vidit Raj Bhundesh confirmed the death and said a post‑mortem would determine the exact cause. He added that investigators are tracing suspects.
Shyamapada Mondal, BJP Bolpur district president, called the killing "unfortunate" and demanded the police act within 24 hours.
Bhalla’s wife recalled he had just taken a routine call before leaving for his morning walk, adding a personal dimension to the tragedy.
Investigators are tracing suspects and will file charges once the post‑mortem report is released.
