Rimbi village in West Sikkim sits on the edge of the unstable Singlitam hillock, where 32 homes and four government quarters now face the threat of being buried under mud and debris.
The latest flash floods, sparked by 224.6 mm of rain in 24 hours – the heaviest in the state – have cut off the Rimbi‑Yuksam and Rimbi‑Khecheopalri roads, leaving the town isolated.
Families displaced by the slides have been moved into a relief camp at Geyzing district headquarters; most of the 32 affected households are sheltering in the Rimbi Panchayat Bhawan.
Chief Minister Prem Tamang, speaking from Gyalshing, said the situation remains serious and directed authorities to keep a high alert, monitor active zones, and take all necessary steps to protect residents.
Engineers are currently assessing the extent of the debris blockage on the road to Khecheopalri, with a plan to clear it by early next week, after which connectivity and evacuation routes will reopen.
