Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, announced on Thursday that his organisation will stage a mass protest at Jantar Mantar on Oct 10, 2026, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise that allegedly erased hundreds of thousands of voters.
Dipke accused the SIR of being a “biggest scam” that the BJP‑ruled government is using to wipe out opposition voters, citing cases where people with valid Aadhaar and PAN documents were marked dead in electoral rolls. He singled out former leaders such as Mamata Banerjee, M.K. Stalin and Arvind Kejriwal, arguing that their constituencies were disproportionately affected and that the pattern points to a coordinated effort to tilt elections in favor of the ruling party.
Former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said she might join the protest, describing the SIR as a “fraud” and pledging to support the CJP if she ultimately decides to participate. She added that her decision would be taken later and that she was already in contact with the CJP leadership.
Delhi’s police force has mobilised more than 20,000 officers and paramilitary personnel to secure the city ahead of the protest, with a senior officer telling PTI that no permit had been granted and that prohibitory orders were already in effect around Jantar Mantar. The officer urged citizens to obey the law and warned that any violent act would be met with strict legal action.
The CJP, which has called the SIR a “biggest scam”, has demanded accountability from both the Election Commission and the Centre, while police officials anticipate a possible clash on Saturday as the protestors move to the capital without official clearance.
