In a joint operation by the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force, a top Lashkar‑e‑Taiba commander was neutralised in Budgam district on September 29, 2026.
The troops, operating under Operation Korag, were positioned in Korag near Yousmarg when they detected suspicious activity. After being challenged, the militants opened fire, leading to a brief but intense exchange of gunfire that ended with the elimination of the terrorist.
Musa, who had earlier escaped a shootout in the Yousmarg hills on September 5, 2026, was wanted for multiple attacks in the area. In that earlier encounter, his close aide Yasir was killed, according to PTI.
The Chinar Corps posted on X that the encounter was "fierce" and that the terrorist was the only fatality in the operation. The statement confirmed that the operation involved coordinated efforts across army, police and CRPF units.
The Army has announced that a detailed report on the operation will be presented to the Ministry of Home Affairs later this week, as part of its routine accountability process.
