The Special Sessions Court in Mumbai ruled that the National Investigation Agency had failed to bring any evidence on record that the Ambani family was terrorised by the alleged bomb scare.
Judge Chakor S Baviskar emphasised that the alleged gelatin sticks found in the SUV near the Antilia residence lacked detonators, making them ineffective and falling short of the UAPA definition of a terrorist act.
The court also clarified that the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran, who was found dead in a creek in Thane on March 5, 2021, was an independent homicide under Section 302 of the IPC, not a terrorist offence.
Waze, arrested by the NIA on March 13, 2021, had previously secured bail in a separate corruption investigation. His lawyer anticipates he will walk out of prison Wednesday.
This decision underscores the judiciary’s scrutiny of the NIA’s procedural lapses and may influence how future terrorism cases involving high‑profile families are prosecuted.
