On June 12, 2026, the Louisville Orchestra announced it received a $3.2 million allocation from the Kentucky General Assembly, extending the In Harmony Tour through 2028.
The new money pushes the state's total contribution to $11.8 million, the largest single funding source in the orchestra's history. Since its launch in November 2022, the program has held 243 events across 55 counties, reaching more than 59,000 people.
The tour blends full‑orchestra concerts with classroom visits, library performances, and community partnerships. "We bring music to places people rarely hear it," said Orchestra Director Teddy Abrams. A local teacher in Hopkinsville says the free concerts inspire students to consider music careers.
Three free concerts are scheduled for February 2027 in western Kentucky, each a 90‑minute program led by Abrams. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with performances starting at 7:30 p.m.; registration will open later on the orchestra’s website.
Looking ahead, the orchestra plans a 2027 appearance by Yo‑Yo Ma and seven world premieres by its Creators Corps. The Kentucky General Assembly’s support is expected to keep the initiative running through 2028 and to serve as a model for state‑backed arts outreach nationwide.
