Rajbir Singh Ghuman, the officer on special duty to Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, issued a legal notice to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Thursday, demanding that he remove his social‑media posts within 24 hours and issue a public apology, or face criminal defamation proceedings.
The notice cites Majithia’s recent posts that allege the Punjab government has been swayed by individuals linked to Ghuman, a claim that Ghuman says is baseless and without evidence.
Those allegations stem from an Enforcement Directorate communication that flagged suspected attempts to influence transfers and postings of officials, a matter that has already prompted a CBI investigation into alleged influence‑peddling.
Earlier this year, the CBI registered a corruption case against Ghuman after a Punjab and Haryana High Court order, and the Supreme Court declined to stay the FIR, urging the state to cooperate with the probe.
If Majithia refuses to comply, the notice warns that the CM’s office will pursue criminal proceedings and file a defamation suit, with the possibility of a court order to enforce removal.
The case is poised to draw scrutiny from both opposition and ruling parties, and a hearing in the Punjab High Court is expected next month.
