On Saturday, Balendra Shah and Ramchandra Paudel sent Phulpati Dashain greetings, marking the seventh day of Nepal’s 15‑day festival. The message arrived as government offices closed and celebrations gathered momentum across the country, underscoring the festival’s role in strengthening family ties and national unity.
Shah promised the government would intensify job creation to keep Nepalis from seeking work abroad. He also recalled the Bhotekoshi flash floods that killed 1,455, left 5,285 missing, and rescued over 13,000. The prime minister called for urgent rehabilitation of displaced communities and offered prayers for victims.
Paudel echoed the call for harmony, wishing happiness, peace, and prosperity to citizens at home and abroad. He highlighted how Dashain bridges Nepal’s ethnic and linguistic diversity and preserves cultural identity. The president urged forgiveness and goodwill among communities.
The government announced it will unveil a comprehensive rehabilitation package next week, targeting displaced families, rebuilding infrastructure, and providing financial assistance. The package will also fund community centres to maintain traditional tika and jamara exchanges. Officials said the initiative aims to restore normalcy and reinforce the festival’s unifying spirit.
