Delhi Police filed an FIR on June 14, 2024, naming no suspects but accusing them of sending threatening messages to a Special Executive Magistrate involved in the bail of Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.
Earlier that month, police had logged a non‑cognisable report after the magistrate raised concerns about receiving threats during the hearing.
Cockroach Janta Party accused the authorities of deliberate delay, claiming that four sureties were rejected on vague grounds and that the release of the leaders was stalled.
Advocate Khushbu Jain urged that the complaint and orders be examined before concluding any interference, stressing that due process must shield both the magistrate and the petitioners.
If the threat proves credible, investigators will file charges under the Indian Penal Code, and the court may reconsider the magistrate’s adjournment, ensuring that personal liberty is not compromised.
The police will now launch a formal probe, while the magistrate is expected to submit a detailed report to the court by July 1, 2024.
