Traffic Constable C. Surendra pulled passenger Ravi Kumar to safety after he slipped while boarding a moving train at Anantapur Railway Station on October 5, 2026.
The 12‑car Express, traveling at 80 km/h toward Hyderabad, was scheduled to depart at 15:42. Surendra spotted the passenger’s loss of balance as his foot slipped on the slick platform and acted within seconds, grabbing Kumar by the collar and hauling him back to solid ground.
Anantapur Railway Station Director K. R. Menon said the constable’s prompt intervention averted a potential fatality. "Our crew was trained for such emergencies, but Surendra’s quick reaction was exemplary," he remarked at the scene. Kumar, a 38‑year‑old farmer from Guntur district, thanked the constable in front of the cameras.
The Railways has ordered a review of platform safety measures following the incident. A safety committee will convene on November 1 to assess the station’s protocols and recommend upgrades.
Surendra’s actions have already earned him praise on social media, with followers calling him a local hero. The incident underscores the importance of vigilant crowd management on busy routes.
