A blaze erupted inside a fireworks factory in the small village of Kubrinsk, about 100 kilometres north of Moscow, on Monday, taking the lives of 14 employees and leaving one wounded.
TASS, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations, said the fire spread rapidly after a pile of pyrotechnic materials ignited, turning the facility into a furnace within minutes.
RT footage released the same day showed bright sparks pouring from a collapsed stack of rubble, a grim visual that was broadcast nationwide.
The Yaroslavl region has a record of industrial accidents, with officials often citing weak safety enforcement as a key factor. In the wake of the tragedy, the regional prosecutor's office has launched a probe into compliance with safety regulations.
Authorities will review the factory's safety protocols and the storage of volatile materials; any findings could lead to fines or closure, according to the prosecutor's office.
