A customer filmed staff washing a pressure cooker and other utensils on the bathroom floor of New Delhi Sweets in Korba on Oct. 4, 2026.
The employee claimed the water tap had been shut for a 48‑hour outage after a pipeline burst, forcing the backup washing to take place in the washroom.
Chief Food Safety Officer Ramesh Singh inspected the premises on Oct. 9 and issued a notice demanding the establishment eliminate the bathroom washing area and install a proper sink within three days.
Social media users slammed the practice. User @foodlover wrote, "How can a sweet shop let customers see utensils washed in a toilet?" and @kitchencritic added, "This is a gross violation of public health."
The incident echoes a 2025 case where a similar shop in Raipur was fined ₹5 lakh for hygiene breaches.
If New Delhi Sweets fails to comply, Singh said the department will suspend the outlet’s food licence on Oct. 12, and a hearing will be scheduled.
