Anshika, 14, died Monday evening in Ludhiana after a tractor carrying 20 tonnes of bricks ran over her head.
She was riding a scooter with two boys on the way to school for handball practice. The scooter had just overtaken the tractor when a second two‑wheeler approached from the opposite side, forcing the riders to slam on the brakes.
CCTV footage shows the riders skidding and falling onto the road. Anshika, seated at the rear, fell in a way that her head landed under the tractor's tyre.
She was transported to DMC Hospital but succumbed to severe head injuries.
Her father works at a printing press and her mother is a homemaker; she also has a 13‑year‑old brother. Anshika had been scheduled to travel to Bathinda on Tuesday to represent her team in a state‑level handball match.
Police have seized the CCTV footage and launched an investigation. The family mourns the loss of their daughter and teammate.
