JD(U) expelled Bihar MLA Anant Singh and former legislator Neelam Devi on Saturday over alleged anti‑party conduct.
Singh, a former underworld figure who rose in Mokama’s local politics, had begun canvassing for Jan Suraaj Party’s Anuj Singh in the legislative council polls, openly defying JD(U) directives and berating top leaders.
In a statement, JD(U) Bihar unit president Umesh Singh Kushwaha said Singh’s "primary membership was terminated with immediate effect" after he "used insulting language against top leadership" and "campaigning for a rival candidate".
The party has also filed a notice with the Bihar assembly speaker to invoke the Tenth Schedule and strip Singh of his MLA seat, a six‑year ban that would bar him from any legislative role.
The move comes just weeks before the council elections; Jan Suraaj Party welcomed the expulsion, while opposition parties warn of legal challenges. A local farmer in Mokama said the ban would restore order after months of Singh’s disruptive rallies.
