Chandrababu Naidu slammed YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday, calling him "Kansa Mama" and accusing him of abandoning his duties as elder brother by rejecting his sister YS Sharmila’s request to host her daughter’s wedding at the Yelahanka Palace in Bengaluru. The family house, owned by the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, has been at the heart of a property split that dates back to 2019, when the estate was divided between the late chief minister’s sons.
Sharmila had already printed the wedding cards and set a date of November 25 for her daughter Anjili’s ceremony, but Reddy declined to allow the event at his Bangalore residence, citing security risks. He said the influx of caterers, decorators, event managers, and photographers would expose the property to threats and that photographs of the premises would be widely circulated.
In an October 9 letter released by the YSR Congress Party today, Jagan explained that he had warned his sister in advance through family intermediaries and that the offer to use his Lotus Pond property in Hyderabad remained open. He added that the decision was not taken lightly, voicing hurt that Sharmila proceeded despite his objections.
The feud has drawn in senior politicians, with the chief ministers of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, as well as members of the Congress Gandhi family, reportedly invited to the planned Bengaluru event. Party insiders warn that the rift could erode voter confidence and give opposition parties a rallying point ahead of the 2027 state elections.
The YSR Congress Party will convene a special meeting on November 3 to decide whether to formalise a split or seek a reconciliation strategy. Party leaders say the outcome will determine the party’s stance in the forthcoming election campaign.
