The INDIA coalition, led by the AICC and Congress, scheduled a mock Parliament inside Hotel Ashoka on 30 October. During the session, a motion to impeach Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will be tabled, continuing the opposition’s push to remove the poll chief.
The move follows a week of heated protests over allegations that Kumar is orchestrating vote‑chori in the lead‑up to the national elections. KC Venugopal, the AICC’s organisation secretary, outlined the rally’s logistics in a post on X, noting that meetings with front‑line chairpersons and departmental in‑charges were held at Indira Bhavan.
The rally, slated for 1 November at Ramlila Maidan, is expected to draw at least one million participants, according to Venugopal. Prime targets of the protest include the alleged vote‑chori scheme that critics claim is being driven by Modi‑Shah’s allies.
If the impeachment motion passes, it would trigger a formal inquiry and could force Kumar to step down before the next general elections, a move that would reshape the electoral landscape. The opposition also plans a Chalo Delhi March on 25‑26 November, with six yatras converging on the capital from different states.
