Rahul Agrawal, the deputy branch manager at Kotak Mahindra Bank, saw ₹1.25 lakh vanish from his credit card after he clicked a link in a text purporting to offer a new job in Alwar on Sunday evening.
The message, sent from an unfamiliar number, promised a lucrative position and included a URL that led to a counterfeit banking site. Agrawal entered his card details, unwittingly authorising a transfer that drained his account within minutes.
Agrawal discovered the fraud after the transaction appeared in his bank statement. He immediately contacted the Alwar Kotwali police station, where Dinesh Chand Sharma, in‑charge, accepted his complaint and registered an online cyber‑fraud case.
Sharma said the police are tracing the IP address linked to the phishing site and will identify the perpetrators once the forensic analysis is complete. The investigation will conclude with a report to the chief judicial magistrate before any further action is taken.
Meanwhile, Agrawal has approached his bank's fraud helpline in hopes of recovering the lost amount, though the bank has yet to confirm a reimbursement timeline.
