Maharashtra's Legislative Council polls recorded a 42.7% turnout by 2 pm on Friday, the highest among the five graduate and teachers constituencies.
In the Pune Division Graduates' constituency, 40.6% of 3,88,019 registered voters turned up, while Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar registered 38.88% and 36.02% respectively. Teachers' constituencies mirrored the trend, with Amravati achieving 62.54% of 35,810 voters and Pune 57.89% of 61,940.
Bihar's polls showed 29.32% participation in four graduate seats and 57.2% in five teacher seats, with Darbhanga Teachers' constituency leading at 67%. Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh also held their MLC elections, though turnout figures are pending.
Both major alliances – the Mahayuti (BJP, Shiv Sena, NCP) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (Congress, NCP‑SP, Shiv Sena‑UBT) – contested all five seats in Maharashtra, fielding a combined 78 candidates across the state. The 78‑member Legislative Council currently has BJP as the largest party with 35 members, followed by Shiv Sena’s 12 and NCP’s 10.
Vote counting will commence on October 27, with the final results expected by October 31. A local teacher from Amravati, Ramesh Shukla, told reporters he voted early to avoid the late‑afternoon crowds.
