A 17‑year‑old in Lucknow killed his mother with a wrench after a heated argument about his wish to undergo gender‑affirming surgery.
Police recovered a diary in which the teen had written about a wrench, chili powder and hot water, showing he had planned the attack months before. Officer Vivek Kumar Chaudhary told NDTV that the entries were “evidence of premeditation”.
The mother had repeatedly urged the boy to seek medical and psychological counseling instead of surgery, but the teen insisted on a gender‑affirming operation. The family had already arranged counseling sessions, yet the dispute flared when the father rented a separate house for the teen and forbade family visits, while the mother wanted him to stay with her.
On Thursday, the teen arrived at the flat carrying a wrench, struck his mother on the head repeatedly, and she died on the spot. After the killing, he called the police, admitting his role.
During interrogation, the teen revealed he had used ChatGPT to research legal procedures and punishment for a minor accused of murder. The police recovered the wrench and other evidence, and the case is now being forwarded to the Forensic Medicine Department for a post‑mortem.
The next step will be the filing of charges under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, with the case slated for a court hearing next month.
