Indian security forces engaged suspected terrorists in Kupwara’s Keran sector on Saturday, Jammu & Kashmir police officials said.
The clash erupted along the Line of Control in the Jumgund area, where troops reported a suspicious movement of several individuals.
Officials are not yet certain that the encounter was an infiltration attempt, adding that the area has seen sporadic skirmishes in recent weeks.
The operation remains in progress, with investigators collecting forensic evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Police expect to publish a comprehensive after‑action report within the next 48 hours, which will clarify the number of casualties and the nature of the attack.
