The knife attack rattled Ostroleka's high school, with the 19‑year‑old suspect detained shortly after the incident. Eight people—three adults and five teenagers—suffered cuts ranging from superficial to severe, according to fire‑department reports. The victims were a mix of teachers and students.
Prosecutor Elzbieta Lukasiewicz told TVN24 that the assailant "went into the school and attacked with a dangerous tool." She added that the motive remains unclear and the case has been escalated to the regional police. The suspect was taken into custody within minutes of the alarm.
Police released a blurred photo of the suspect and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The school has been locked down, and security teams from Warsaw are conducting a sweep of the campus. Parents and staff are being briefed on safety protocols.
Authorities say the investigation will determine whether this was a random act or part of a larger threat. The school is scheduled to reopen next week pending clearance from the education ministry, but officials say no decision has been made yet.
