Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi lashed out at Pakistan at the UN Security Council on Wednesday, calling out Islamabad’s reliance on 'theatrics' while its economy struggles to keep afloat. He told the assembly that Pakistan would serve its people far better by focusing on development rather than 'coveting territory' of other nations.
The remarks were a direct jab at Pakistan's economic fragility. Tyagi emphasized that neither terrorism nor diplomatic posturing would help the country repay the massive loans its economy currently survives on.
The Indian diplomat also pressed the Council on the humanitarian crisis in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He cited the killing of scores of civilians since June, noting that students were arrested in Islamabad and Rawalpindi while essential supplies of food, fuel, and medicine were deliberately held back by the state.
Pakistan’s previous response to these specific allegations was merely a 'point of order,' Tyagi pointed out. He added that if any delegation in the room meets every objective criterion for the Council's scrutiny, it is Pakistan.
India reiterated that the disputed region remains an integral part of India and demanded Pakistan vacate the occupied territories. Tyagi highlighted the irony of Pakistan requesting a UN inquiry after training, arming, and sending terrorists across the border who killed Kashmiris of every faith.
