The appeal was lodged on Friday by four unnamed wrestlers who had earlier accused Singh of sexual harassment during his tenure as WFI chief.
In the original case, the wrestlers alleged that Singh coerced them into compromising positions, citing multiple incidents between 2019 and 2022. The court, after reviewing the evidence, granted Singh an acquittal on August 3.
The wrestlers argue that the magistrate’s report contained factual inaccuracies and that crucial evidence was disregarded. They claim that witnesses were not adequately examined.
Delhi court clerk Anil Patel said the appellate hearing is scheduled for Saturday and that the court will re‑examine the evidence cited in the original trial.
One of the wrestlers, a 27‑year‑old from Patna, said she felt dismissed by the authorities and feared retaliation if the appeal failed.
The hearing will likely determine whether the acquittal stands and could set a precedent for future sexual‑harassment cases within Indian sports federations.
