On October 26, Meta blocked a reel from the World Hindu Congress that featured Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inviting attendees to the December 18‑20 event in Mumbai.
Meta cited a legal request under India’s Information Technology Rules and announced a restriction after reviewing policy and conducting a human‑rights assessment, but did not disclose which provision was invoked.
In response, VHP’s national spokesperson Vinod Bansal called the removal an anti‑Hindu act and threatened legal action, demanding a public apology and restoration of the content.
The World Hindu Congress has formally asked Meta for a detailed explanation of the legal basis and warned that it will pursue litigation if the video is not reinstated.
MeitY has yet to comment, and the VHP has urged the ministry to intervene, while the upcoming congress is expected to attract 4,000 delegates and will be held at Mumbai’s N. L. D. College.
