Rajat Sethi, an Executive Committee member of the Harvard Club of India, told ANI on Tuesday, Oct. 13, that a group of alumni had issued a letter. The letter criticized police action during protests in Delhi. Sethi said the letters were written in a personal capacity and did not reflect the club’s stance.
The alumni letter, signed by individuals presenting themselves as Harvard University alumni, called out the detention of certain protesters. It focused on the actions taken by authorities following the demonstrations.
In a formal statement, the club reiterated that its charter and bylaws prohibit it from issuing political statements. The document clarified that the club had no role in authoring or endorsing the alumni letter. It stressed that the letter represents only the personal views of its signatories.
The club affirmed it will continue to separate personal expressions from official positions. It said it would monitor the situation and issue further statements if needed. No official endorsement of the alumni remarks will be made.
