Rahul Gandhi invited all members of the INDIA alliance, opposition MPs, student organisations and civil society representatives to a high‑tea at his New Delhi home on Tuesday, October 13, 2024, according to a post on X. The meeting, scheduled for 4 pm on Sunehri Bagh Road, follows a march to the Supreme Court the day before, where leaders from Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Supriya Sule, Sanjay Raut, Mahua Majhi and others presented a petition on alleged electoral roll irregularities.
The gathering aims to consolidate a unified front against what the opposition calls a "systemic manipulation" of voter rolls. Rahul Gandhi said the protest would continue relentlessly and that the tea would be followed by a joint press conference where the case would be presented to the media.
Earlier this week, the opposition staged an eight‑hour sit‑in at Akashvani Bhawan and was removed by police. Over the weekend, thousands of protesters, including members of the Cockroach Janta Party and former chief ministers, were detained amid heightened security in the capital.
The press conference, slated for 5 pm the same day, will see the INDIA bloc leaders formally demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and call for a comprehensive review of the electoral process.
