The demonstration unfolded Thursday evening at Freedom Park in Delhi, where civil‑society groups and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) gathered to challenge the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. CJP co‑founder Abhijeet Dipke joined YouTuber Dhruv Rathee onstage, as the pair urged voters to reject the SIR and question the roll‑update process. Dhruv’s clip, posted to X with a caption that read, "Hello @narendramodi, India has a message for you," was punctuated by his chant, "Vote Chor, Gadi Chod," a call for voters to abandon the throne. He added, "I have not come here for regime change," underscoring a focus on electoral reform.
Actor‑activist Prakash Raj, who joined the protest, demanded the scrapping of the SIR, arguing it threatened citizens’ dignity and voting rights. He warned that the exercise amounts to a political purge rather than a technical update.
In a separate statement, CEC Gyanesh Kumar said he was acting at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, a claim that critics see as undermining the Commission’s independence.
The CJP and allied groups have vowed to keep the march alive until the SIR is abandoned, holding rallies at Freedom Park every day of the week.
