TVS Motor has just rolled out the iQube EV, a 6.27 lakh, 120 km electric scooter.
Under the hood sits a 6.5 kWh lithium‑ion pack that feeds a 6.5 hp motor, producing 39 Nm of torque. A single charge gets you up to 120 km on the standard cycle, which is on par with the Bajaj Chetak EV and a notch above most petrol rivals.
The iQube is priced at ₹6.27 lakh ex‑showroom, a subtle drop from the earlier ₹6.55 lakh model. Bajaj’s Chetak EV sits at ₹6.90 lakh, while Hero’s Flash 200 comes in at ₹3.83 lakh but only offers about 75 km range. For buyers chasing a balance of price and mileage, the iQube sits squarely in the middle.
The launch comes as the government pushes a 30% duty on imported EV batteries, but offers a 10% duty exemption on domestic‑made EVs. Venu Srinivasan, the Chairman Emeritus, said the industry should stay technology‑agnostic, noting that ethanol blends can keep fuel prices steady while reducing imports.
What that means for you is that the iQube won’t be the only green option on the roads, but it offers a credible, relatively affordable choice without sacrificing too much range or performance. If you’ve been holding back because of range anxiety, the 120 km spec should ease the hesitation.
The scooter will hit showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai from 15 October, with plans to roll out to other metro hubs over the next quarter. Keep an eye on the upcoming variants, as TVS plans a mid‑range model with a larger battery for longer commutes.
