Jaishankar met Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the High‑Level Week at UNGA81. The two leaders exchanged views on pressing global issues and reviewed India‑Russia ties, including cooperation under BRICS, according to a joint statement released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also co‑chaired the India‑Gulf Cooperation Council Troika Ministerial Meeting in New York, where he reviewed progress on the India‑GCC Joint Action Plan 2024‑28 and outlined steps to deepen the partnership.
The ministers welcomed the launch of India‑GCC Free Trade Agreement negotiations, signalling a broadening of economic ties that could encompass trade, investment, energy, food security, health, new technologies, culture, and people‑to‑people exchanges.
The treaty signing comes as India plans to establish a national cybercrime task force to enforce the convention, a move that could tighten cybersecurity for millions of internet users across the country.
