At about 9:30 p.m. on September 24, a black SUV driven by an inebriated man collided with a string of parked cars in Alaknanda, south Delhi's CR Park. The driver, along with two passengers, fled the scene before police arrived.
Delhi Police responded to a PCR call about rash driving and recovered the vehicle at the scene. Officers found the driver blood‑shot and seized the SUV under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Residents lodged a joint complaint the following day, alleging the driver also struck a closed gate of a nearby residential complex and then attacked security guards. The complaint noted a community dog suffered a fractured leg and was taken to a private pet hospital for treatment.
An FIR was registered under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and police are investigating the case under Section 315 of the Indian Penal Code for negligent driving.
City residents say the incident has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of drunk‑driving laws, while the dog’s owner hopes for a swift recovery. The case will be forwarded to the Crime Branch for further scrutiny.
