Mohammed Jaber Hussain, a 27‑year‑old from Hyderabad’s Santoshnagar, was found dead in a Lowell apartment on September 14, 2026, after a brief conversation with his mother at 8 a.m. The family says he died while sleeping, a shock that rattled his wife, who discovered the body hours later.
The parents immediately approached Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek, to seek help. Khan has demanded that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar intervene, asking the Indian Embassy in Boston or the Consulate General in New York to coordinate with U.S. authorities on the repatriation.
Hussain had moved to the United States in 2021 to pursue a master’s degree in civil engineering at a Connecticut university. He later secured employment in Lowell and married a woman from Texas in August 2026, a year after his arrival.
The family, described as belonging to an economically weaker section, fears the cost of transport and customs clearance will overwhelm them. They have pleaded for government assistance to cover these expenses and facilitate the final rites in Hyderabad.
Indian officials are expected to respond within the next 48 hours, with the Ministry of External Affairs reportedly preparing a protocol to liaise with the U.S. Department of State and the local embassy. The repatriation process could take several weeks if all paperwork proceeds smoothly.
