On Tuesday, Delhi Police halted the INDIA bloc march near the Election Commission and arrested Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra after they entered Akashvani Bhavan without permission, citing a lack of official clearance.
Delhi Police said the leaders refused to vacate the premises, insisting they would not leave until a delegation of MPs could meet with Election Commission officials.
The protest, organized by opposition parties, demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, adding fuel to an already tense electoral climate.
The detained leaders, along with over 260 protestors—including 10 MPs—were taken to New Police Lines, Kingsway Camp, and subsequently released after a brief stay while the FIR remains pending in court.
Delhi Police has filed the FIR under relevant sections, and the case will now proceed through the judicial system; opposition leaders have vowed to keep pressure on the Election Commission.
