Mahindra & Mahindra’s SUV arm pumped out 541,942 units in the first nine months of CY2026, a 21% jump over the 446,697 units sold in the same period a year earlier. The jump puts the marque just 83,662 units shy of its 625,603‑unit record from CY2025, and the company is on track to break the 700,000‑unit mark next quarter.
But the headline numbers hide the story of which models are pulling the weight. The Scorpio N and Classic together hauled in 120,960 SUVs, up 11% YoY, taking a 25% slice of the market. Meanwhile, the Thar twins added 88,274 units, an 18% share—up 21% from the same months last year. The XUV 7XO, launched earlier this year, still draws crowds with 72,265 units, holding a 15% share that keeps it in the top‑five.
The electric pushing is even more striking: 50,835 BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S units sold in January‑August 2026, a staggering 89% YoY rise that gives them an 11% share of Mahindra’s SUV sales. The XUV400 and the discontinued XUV700 contributed 679 and 176 units respectively, underscoring the brand’s EV momentum.
Price has been a tightrope walk. Mahindra already made three hikes—January, April and a sizeable 2.7% jump in July—driven by commodity price swings. CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta said the fourth increase is still under review, so buyers should keep an eye on the next few weeks for any price move that could affect the purchase decision.
In the broader field, Mahindra’s 542,000‑unit tally leaves Tata Motors ahead by 34,790 SUVs, but the gap is narrowing. Tata’s 576,732 units in the same period show a 41% YoY rise, while Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki remain at the back of the pack. For buyers, this close‑knit rivalry means more options and sharper price competition.
Looking ahead, the outlook is bullish. Q4 of CY2026 is expected to see 725,000‑750,000 units sold, potentially breaching the 700,000‑unit milestone for the first time. City‑wise rollouts will likely continue as Mahindra rolls out new variants and finalizes any pending price adjustments by the end of September. Enthusiasts should watch for the next wave of model updates and any further EV expansion plans as the year winds down.
