Four CISF jawans were killed in a gunfight that erupted during an altercation among their ranks in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir, during the early hours of Thursday. The shooting followed a heated argument over an internal dispute.
Police have detained one of the jawans who allegedly fired at his colleagues, according to a statement from the Kathua Police Commissioner, S. P. Malik.
The Central Industrial Security Force issued a statement saying the incident is under investigation and that it will cooperate with local authorities.
Officials say the shooting was an isolated incident and that no civilians were harmed, but the force’s internal disciplinary procedures are being reviewed.
A formal inquiry by the CISF’s internal affairs wing is scheduled for June 3, 2026, and a press conference by the Ministry of Home Affairs is expected on June 5.
