The tragic incident unfolded at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the village of Koorankad, Menonpara, when two young siblings, Jennifer Juliet, 5, and Robin, 3, fell into a nearly three‑foot‑tall concrete water tank in their home’s bathroom.
The children were found inside the tank and immediately rescued by their mother, who was alone at home. They were rushed to a nearby hospital but were pronounced dead.
Kozhinjampara police station said the incident was registered as an unnatural death and that an investigation has been launched.
The case comes amid growing concerns over unsafe water storage practices in Kerala households, where concrete tanks are common in rural areas.
Local authorities have urged homeowners to install safety covers, and the state’s Home Ministry has announced a review of residential water‑tank regulations.
