The videos, which mix real photographs with synthetic voice‑over, were first spotted on the microblogging platform X on Tuesday, just before the election deadline.
In one clip, a former intern of Senator Brown, Haya Akbik, is shown in a fabricated news‑anchor set, making claims that are entirely fabricated. Akbik, who once worked on Brown's campaign, called the clip appalling and said it damaged both her and the Senator's reputation.
The second video frames a supposed former student of Talarico in a confessional, accusing the candidate of corruption. Talarico's spokesperson, JT Ennis, blasted the footage as a deliberate attempt to undermine the Texas Democrat with AI‑generated slander.
Clemson University’s media‑forensics expert Darren Linvill traced the accounts that shared the new videos to a network previously linked to Storm‑1516, which targeted former President‑elect Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in 2024.
Dartmouth professor Hany Farid confirmed the deepfakes were likely AI‑generated, noting the Brown clip was low‑tech but the Talarico clip matched the sophisticated style used in prior election‑day campaigns.
X removed the original posts and suspended the perpetrators, but copies can still be found with hundreds of shares, underscoring the difficulty of erasing disinformation once it goes viral.
