If you’re hunting a 6‑ or 7‑seat SUV, the latest sales data points to the Mahindra Scorpio as the king of the segment—17,313 units sold in September alone. That figure eclipses every other model in the chart, cementing the Scorpio’s status as the go‑to family vehicle.
Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga follows with 16,911 units, marking a 39.6% jump from last year. Mahindra’s own Bolero pulls in 9,710 units, its biggest leap in the segment at 253.5% YoY. Toyota’s XUV 7XO and combined Innova Crysta/Hycross line haul 9,097 and 8,008 units respectively, both seeing modest declines.
The overall 6‑ and 7‑seat market clocked 91,400 units in September, a 26.7% rise over 2025. That growth means more families are opting for multi‑row SUVs, and the price‑to‑space ratio remains a critical decision point.
Aside from the leaders, the Carens and Carens Clavis together sold 6,319 units, while the newer XEV 9S and XL6 added 4,636 and 3,251 units, respectively. Toyota’s Fortuner and Rumion delivered 3,185 and 2,481 units, with the Rumion rising 199.3% YoY—an indicator that newer models are gaining traction.
Tata Safari, MG Tomahawk, Kia Sorento, and Nissan Gravite all made modest entries, while Hyundai Alcazar and Renault Triber slipped in sales. For buyers, this spread shows that the market is diversifying, but the heavyweights still dominate.
Looking ahead, keep an eye on the upcoming trim releases from Mahindra and the new variants slated for launch early next year. As the segment continues to expand, buyers can expect tighter competition and more options, but the Scorpio’s strong sales track record will likely keep it front and center for the foreseeable future.
