Naidu flew over the storm‑devastated districts on Thursday, announcing the preliminary loss figure and directing rapid clearance of roads and restoration of power. He ordered officials to remove fallen trees within two hours, to clear national highways immediately, and to supply food, water and medical aid to shelters.
The report lists 38,000 affected families, 1,500 damaged coconut trees and 1,100 oil palm trees, each eligible for ₹1,500 compensation. No casualties were reported, a fact attributed to the state’s early warning system.
At Cheyyeru, Vetlapalem and Gachakayalapora he met farmers and displaced residents, stressing that state machinery will supply necessities. He highlighted that the preliminary assessment could rise after a detailed review.
Naidu has requested ₹4,600 crore in central relief and submitted a preliminary damage report to the Union Home Ministry. A joint committee of state and central officials will refine the estimate within 48 hours, and the central government will convene a meeting on May 30 to decide on the assistance package.
