The night of Thursday ended with a hail of bullets ricocheting off the brick façade of the Deputy Superintendent of Police office in Jalalabad, Fazilka district, as two men chased a rival group on motorcycles. Sona Singh and Paramjit Singh were swiftly taken into custody, their illegal .32‑bore pistol seized by officers.
Mohit Dhawan, the station house officer, told reporters that the forensic team has been briefed to tally the rounds fired and verify whether the recovered pistol was employed in the exchange. The investigation will also assess structural damage and witness statements.
The incident follows a string of small‑scale skirmishes in the area, raising concerns among local traders who fear a spill‑over of violence into nearby markets. One shopkeeper, who watched the gunfire from a distance, said the building’s fire alarm was triggered but no one was injured.
Jalalabad’s police station is now conducting a sweep of the surrounding villages, searching for the remaining members of the rival faction. Officers have urged residents to report any suspicious activity.
A senior officer added that the case will be escalated to the district crime branch once the forensic report is complete, and that a press briefing is scheduled for Monday.
The next step will see the forensic findings released, followed by a potential court appearance for the two accused, while the hunt for the other suspects continues.
