Raja Warring resigned as Punjab Congress chief on October 2, 2026, during a Delhi protest led by Rahul Gandhi.
Warring was photographed clinging to Rahul Gandhi amid police cordons, while Priyanka Gandhi stood in front; police had detained Rahul at a roundabout near Shangri‑La, carrying him onto a bus.
The resignation follows months of factional clashes with former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who now enjoys the backing of the party’s leadership; Pargat Singh, a Jalandhar MLA, was announced as Warring’s successor on September 28.
The Congress party will convene a Punjab state unit meeting on October 5 to decide on the leadership and policy direction, according to party spokesperson Udai Bhanu Chib.
