Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi walked away from Nirvachan Sadan free, just minutes after police stopped their march. The INDIA bloc MPs had gathered outside Parliament Tuesday morning, carrying posters with slogans like "Save democracy" and "Save my vote." Their target was specific: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They demanded his resignation, citing alleged vote theft.
The march hit a snag quickly. Police stopped the group, forcing the MPs to sit on the road. Rahul Gandhi, leading the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, sat among them. The detention was brief. Authorities released the group almost immediately, allowing the protest to continue in its seated, static form rather than a physical march.
Not all allies joined the protest. Two major opposition parties, the DMK and the Aam Aadmi Party, stayed away from the march. Their absence marked a slight fracture in the INDIA bloc's unified front on this specific issue. The remaining MPs, however, pressed on with their demands, refusing to disperse despite the short detention. The focus remains squarely on the Election Commission's response to their allegations.
