Rahul Gandhi posted on X Thursday, demanding the name of the Election Commission officer who instructed Tata Consultancy Services to modify the online Form 6 and who signed off on the changes—questioning whether the alterations were imposed under pressure.
His remarks arrive amid a widening backlash against the EC’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, a process that has elicited 14 formal objections from Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over a ten‑month stretch. Those objections covered voter registration, deletion, restoration, and the SIR exercise, yet the EC maintains that all decisions received unanimous approval from its three‑member panel.
The same day, Congress leaders convened in New Delhi to coordinate a political and legal response. President Mallikarjun Kharge demanded the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the replacement of electronic voting machines with paper ballots, while also urging the use of the pre‑SIR roll in future elections and stronger safeguards against administrative errors.
Gandhi’s post added a sharp critique of the legal immunity granted to the CEC, suggesting it is used to "steal" elections. The opposition plans to press the matter in Parliament and file petitions to the Supreme Court, while the Election Commission is expected to reply to the queries within the next week.
