At 5:25 a.m. on Saturday, a bar in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, La Rioja, collapsed, injuring 11 and trapping an estimated 25‑30 people inside.
Emergency crews arrived within minutes, lifting rubble to free survivors. The first victims reported that the floor caved in before the ceiling gave way. Firefighters continued to search the area for any remaining trapped occupants. Authorities said that the rubble remains unstable, complicating the rescue.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
Separately, a 102‑year‑old woman died in Madrigueras after heavy rain dumped 142 litres of water per square metre on the town. Emergency services rescued about 90 people from flooded streets and homes. The rain followed Spain's hottest summer on record, which has already claimed about 2,150 heat‑related deaths in August.
